About
Marie Claire db is a contemporary artist born and based in Rome, Italy.
Largely self-taught, her artistic practice began with an exploration of colour and abstraction, gradually evolving towards geometric compositions before the female figure emerged as the central subject of her work.
Rather than abandoning abstraction, she incorporated its visual language into her figurative practice. Large fields of colour, geometric elements and empty space coexist with female figures whose apparent stillness conceals complex inner worlds.
Her creative process begins with an imagined figure, which undergoes an extensive period of visual development before being translated onto canvas. While compositions are carefully defined in advance, the physical act of painting allows room for experimentation with texture, layering and the material qualities of acrylic paint.
Extensive travel and encounters with different cultures have subtly influenced her visual sensibility, particularly in her approach to colour and the representation of the female figure.
Through a balance of visual restraint and emotional complexity, her work explores the distance between what is visible and the experiences that remain concealed beneath the surface.
